About

Emma is a British-Mozambican artist and graphic designer from Cambridge, currently living in Lisbon, Portugal. Growing up, she moved between the UK, Mozambique, Russia, Romania, and Oman. Her travels have shaped her love of folk art and patterns, but perhaps most influential were her early art education, her architectural studies at Newcastle University, and her English grandmother — also an artist in her spare time. It was she, after all, who gave Emma her first copy of Photoshop at the age of 15.

Today, her artistic work explores the world of beauty as seen through the lens of the ugly and the unexpected. Emma aims to evoke intrigue rather than simple cuteness, while also allowing folk traditions to sing through her work. Since 2024, she has been screen-printing her own pieces, a practice that has deeply influenced her style. Her technique now relies heavily on analogue methods, further enriched by her screen-printing experience.

In her professional career as a graphic designer, Emma has been fortunate to work with Penguin Random House, Oatly, Lucy & Yak, Quercus Books, and, more recently, several museums in England. Her greatest pride is KIN, a cookery book written by Marie Mitchell and fully designed by Emma for Particular Books, an imprint of Penguin.
